Expressionism is the effort to convey the artist’s inner feelings rather than represent external reality. I choose to create images that are derived from free flowing thoughts, creating a layering process of color, texture, shape, and line, which articulate my mood and inspiration. The concepts behind the images that appear in my work are derived from personal experiences, artistic experimentation and the surrounding environment.
The most recent images I have created are conceptual, stemming from observations of human and environmental relationships. I use abstract expressionism to explain my thoughts and feelings. I have also spent much time working on the principles of being a mother, wife and artist.
My career as a high school Art Teacher is incredibly important to my refinement as an artist. It allows me to study, question, teach and observe the artistic process. I find new inspiration and areas of growth through the teaching process and interactions with my students. I feel fortunate having the opportunity to share with young people a passion that has shaped my life.
My most recent accomplishment is my Mixed Media Mosaic Paper Collage. It is created through an elaborate process, beginning with raw materials such as wood panels, various papers, ink, acrylic, and a durable glaze. It is a compilation of many techniques, involving painting, etching, printing, stenciling and collage. I most enjoy making these pieces because they combine a great deal of my educational, professional, and personal experiences. I feel that I am able to freely express myself in this unique and original form of art.
